Fisherman's Wharf Community Benefit District Public Realm Plan
The Fisherman’s Wharf Community Benefit District Public Realm Plan is an inter-agency partnership, led by the
Planning Department, that will help reinvigorate the streets and public spaces of Fisherman’s Wharf. A
redesigned Jefferson Street will be the central element of the plan, but the plan will also contain:
New streetscape designs for the remainder of the Wharf’s streets;
Design guidelines for new development
A revamped parking and circulation plan
Proposals for new and refurbished public open spaces

Taken together, the Public Realm Plan will support a diverse and active public life and will build on the Wharf’s historic roots as the home to San Francisco’s last working fishing fleet. By reaffirming Fisherman’s Wharf’s status
as one of San Francisco’s premier attraction, the Public Realm Plan will both help solidify the Wharf’s future
economic vitality, as well as strengthen its connection to the city.

February 2010
From the minutes of the February 2010 Urban Planning Committee meeting of the FWCBD.
The San Francisco Planning Department has said that they are hoping to schedule a community
Fisherman’s Wharf Public Realm Plan meeting in March.
The funding for the Environmental Impact Review is in jeopardy. The SF Planning Department has stated
that they are open to a potential proposal to have the FWCBD pay a portion of the $75K cost of the EIR.
The FWCBD has carryover funds that could be used for this purpose.

The FWCBD did, in fact, share in the cost of the EIR, and the EIR has now been completed. The FWCBD is also
sharing in the cost of helping to finish the design phase of the project.

The FWCBD had requested that the Jefferson Street upgrade be completed prior to the America’s Cup in 2013.
They have received information back that the projected will not be completed by 2013 due to the length and
complexity of the actual construction. However, it is still working with SF Planning and the City to determine if a
couple of blocks could be finished prior to the beginning of the America’s Cup. They do not have a definitive
answer.
